Not everyone is a book lover, no matter how many times they give it a shot. Let’s face it, reading just isn’t for everyone. While I am an avid reader, I have many friends who haven’t picked up a book since high school and just have no interest in doing so. Their hobbies reside elsewhere.
But not all reading apps are book centric. There are some that cover other literary areas, such as magazines, newspapers and even comic books.

For those of you out there that have an Android tablet or phone and are more interested in other formats outside of books, here are three really cool apps you need to check out.
1. Komik
I may be a bookworm, but I have also been an avid reader of comic books since I was a kid. As I grew up my interest didn’t wan, but instead my tastes started to lean more toward adult graphic novels like Sandman, The Walking Dead and Deadpool. Thankfully, my Android has that covered. This cool app lets you read crisp comic pages in full color, with gorgeous detail. It has CBR, CBZ and image directory comic support. You can zoom in or out, and there are smooth page turns that never lag. It is free, though they take $1.99 donations from fans. I think it is a program well worth supporting.
2. Google Reader
Chances are, you know about Google Reader (gReader) by now. It is a great program that lets you collect RSS feeds and puts them all into one convenient, easy to read format that can be sifted through at will. You can now get it as an app on your phone, so you can get news from anywhere in the world, in any category, along with any other RSS update to sites you have subscribed to. There is both a free and a pro version, and I prefer the free one myself. But I know several people who swear that it is worth every penny of the $4.99 for the advanced app.
3. Zinio
This app boasts itself as being the world’s largest newsstand, and I think that is a fair assessment. It allows you to browse and subscribe to any magazine or newspaper you could want, with thousands of titles available at your fingertips. It also offers discount prices for many of them, including a full 50% off their selection of top 100 publications. The images are clear and it is easy to use. Some people have said they have problems with losing connection when they are on the outskirt of a Wifi range, but I have never had that problem and I suspect it is more to do with their phone/the strength of the nearby signal than anything having to do with the app.
